Meat and Dairy Products

On the highlands and mountain slopes around Srb, Donji Lapac, and Gračac, livestock is raised in the open air with minimal industrial feed – giving rise to products like:

  • Basa a traditional Lika dairy specialty with a light texture and slightly tangy flavor, made from boiled milk and whey. Perfect with Lika potatoes or cornmeal polenta.

  • Lika Cheese from fresh škripavac to smoked hard cheese varieties.

  • Cured Meats Lika-style prosciutto, homemade sausages, smoked pork loin (pečenica), and bacon, all smoked over beechwood.

  • Grilled Lamb a local specialty and a must at every celebration.

Lika Potatoes – The Pride of the Region

Known for their firm texture and rich flavor, Lika potatoes shine when baked in ashes or cooked in their skins (“in uniform”), served with basa, cheese, and fresh spring onions.

Homemade Honey and Fruit

  • Honey from Lika’s meadows and forests – acacia, wildflower, and forest varieties

  • Jams and preserves made from wild plums, blackberries, blueberries, and cornelian cherries

  • Dried fruits, compotes, and natural preserves prepared the old-fashioned way

Straight from the Family Farm

  • Fresh free-range eggs

  • Wood-fired oven bread – corn, rye, or mixed

  • Rakija (fruit brandies): šljivovica (plum), kruškovača (pear), drenovača (cornelian cherry), travarica (herbal), and medovača (honey)
